Katja Schiller Nwator is an International Development Consultant and Philanthropy Advisor who has worked across Africa to drive forward pioneering social programmes, multi-million dollar initiatives and community-level interventions that positively impact on the lives of women, youth, and African society as a whole. Dynamic, driven and passionate about social justice, Katja has collaborated with donor agencies, foundations, governments, non-profit organizations and private sector companies to raise funds, allocate grants and develop frameworks for initiatives and programmes that create networks and opportunities that reduce inequalities.
Since commencing consultancy work with international clients, Katja has led on a variety of projects that include establishing in-country operations within Nigeria for U.S. and U.K. nonprofit organizations, devising state and national strategies and interventions at the intersection of gender, entrepreneurship and food security, and conducting groundbreaking research related to the practice and structure of private philanthropy in Nigeria.
In 2017, she founded Philanthropy Circuit – a digital media platform that produces new data and insights about African philanthropy and provides access to knowledge, resources, and tools that strengthen philanthropic organisations and facilitate collaboration. Through this work, Katja is initiating new thinking and perspectives on African giving and the development of the philanthropy sector.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Katja holds a Master’s in Public Administration (with a focus on Nonprofit Management) from Northeastern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Principia College. She serves on the Board of several organizations, including The Gabriel Okara Foundation, Beeta Arts Foundation, Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) and Little Tigers Football Club.
